Employment history

My pedagogic work in the field of environmental education began in 1978 with the opening of the Nature School of Can Lleonart, at the Montseny Natural Park. It was one of the first experiences of environmental education in the whole country. As well as the pedagogic activities, the Nature School set off some investigation lines aimed at the understanding of the environment: flora and fauna phenology registers, studies of trophic and ethological relations of vertebrate populations and the gathering of socio-ecological data.

Twelve years later I entered the Autonomous University of Barcelona as a professor and scientific researcher. Since then, I lectured in the Bachelor’s programmes in Geography, and Environmental Sciences and in other postgraduate studies.
Later, I joined the Institute of Environmental Science and Technology (ICTA), where I currently work as a researcher and project manager in the areas of global change and biodiversity from a social perspective with specific focus on forests and urban systems.

My tasks towards the diffusion and popularisation of  scientific knowledge, mainly in the field of environmental sciences, have been accomplished by the edition and publication of numerous books, papers, popular science articles and opinion pieces as well as by my participation in many national and international congresses and conferences.

I am a member of the editorial board of the journals Tópicos en Educación Ambiental (Mexico), Gestión y Ambiente (Colombia) and Medi Ambient, tecnologia i cultura (Catalonia).
